Assignment #2: Animation

This is the animation I created out of the triptych we made the week before. The base was made from the middle piece of the triptych and I took a couple of elements from the third piece and incorporated it into the animation. I also added a couple more images for the sky and lightning.
In developing this piece, I thought about how bright and open things looked. To go along with the themes and concepts of nature, technology, patterns, man-made, connections, etc. I thought creating a storm and weather for the piece would be fun and interesting as well as fit in with my overall ideas that drove the pieces in the beginning.
As I started the piece- I began with the littlest pieces- the little red bird made of a pomegranate seed, the yellow bird made from my wisdom tooth, and the caterpillar made of a metal gear piece. The trees were built up next and the number of dandelions- made of gears, computer parts, gauze and string with the poppy making movement to conjure the feel of wind and gusts. Finally, I brought in clouds and lightning made of string, metal, gauze, etc. to give a more ominous and powerful feel. I focused as much as possible on the overall atmosphere of the piece.

  1. Lisa,
Excellent first animation. Wow! Nicely done. This is one of the best in the class. So glad to see you go beyond mere movement to incorporate transparency effects. These simple steps beyond what is required are what make a strong project! The subtlety of movement is quite engaging to the eye. Good work!
